Nostalgia for Generation Z: Cassette, their new “Vinyl”.

The growth in sales of Vinyl and CD's in recent years are not the only beneficiaries of the market, cassettes also do.

Entertainment data tracker Luminate reports that sales of cassettes essentially doubled from 2020 to 2021, jumping from 173,000 to 343,000. And the trend is continuing in 2022, with year-to-date sales of 215,000.

Cassette: The new rising sun!

It seems that it is a great time for you to join this new wave, dust off your Walkman or your Stereo from the 80´s and revive that passion for listening to music in this traditional format.

Mainstream artists who have recently sold music on cassette include Billie Eilish, The Weeknd and Ozzy Osbourne, notes Luminate researcher Paulina Pchelin. And for metal, it's no exception, as we see several labels doing their own exercises. Here at Metal Coffin Records, we will have some releases in that format coming soon, stay tuned!

And as we have already mentioned in other notes on our record label, nostalgia has already driven an increase in sales of vinyl, CD's and as you now see, also cassettes.

Although digital platforms like Spotify are not exactly trembling because of these events, without a doubt we realize that more people are looking for better experiences to listen and feel music; not just the express passage of the digital channel, but they also seek that physical experience. The ritual is gaining more and more strength among collectors and new listeners who are willing to give the artist the value it deserves.

Veamos cómo impacta al mercado nacional. De entrada, son buenas noticias para la resurrección del cassette.
